My focus as a filmmaker was to tell a story that challenges our notions of right and wrong. Imprisoned is a revenge thriller wrapped around the heart of a love story that transcends time and geographical limitation. Juxtaposing the harsh and dark world of the prison experience with the beauty and freedom of a fisherman’s life, the film sets the table for the larger, universal themes at play. Hope, revenge, redemption, and forgiveness are the backdrop for real people caught in the half-light between the best and worst of themselves. The distance between freedom and life long incarceration is measured in the desperate, fraction of a second choices that the lead characters are forced to make. Every day on the set of this film changed me. The cast and the crew gave everything they had to this complicated twenty-eight day shoot, on a very limited budget. However, we came out of it with a deeper understanding of the human condition and the complications that surround the tough choices the characters are forced to make. Ultimately the film asks us to examine our own ability to forgive the unforgivable and forces us to question what we would be willing to sacrifice to make a long-term difference in our community, our culture, and in our world. It is my hope that this film will stir the hearts of a diverse audience and cause meaningful conversation about the issues central to this story.
